A good photographer

How many pictures do you need to take of one child to get a "usable" one?

LOTS depending on the child. KP spent most of the morning, taking pictures of each of the kids trying to get some good shots of one. We must have taken 30 pictures of Casey!!! She wanted to frown or play with toys and not smile for KP. Drew did great and we only needed to take 7 pictures to get 2 that I really liked. Shelby was more was a cross between the Drew and Casey. We took 5 or 6 and then later took 5 or 6 more. While we were taking the last set, Casey decided that taking pictures was fun after all and that she would get in on the action!!! We are going to do Landon's tomorrow. We were working on getting pictures for our Christmas card. Shelby just could not believe that we were "having to take our pictures in NOVEMBER for our Christmas cards!!!"
I want to take them and get a picture of all of them together but I think I will let someone else have the responsibility of getting a good picture of all of them. I want KP to keep talking to us!!!

It Always Ends In Tears (and sometimes it starts that way)

Just picture it....a nice, quiet, empty waiting room at the pediatrician's office. Then in walks the Bagwell family. Now everything thing stays calm for a few minutes while I start the check in process--with 3 of the 4 seeing the doctor today this takes just a minute. As I check in and pay, Drew and Shelby work on school work and Casey plays in the toy bus. Landon, the lucky duck not seeing the doctor, starts making known his displeasure with this interruption to his lunch. At about that time, I hear the door to the office open and a familiar voice say "Did somebody call for re enforcements?" I was so happy to hear Steve.

Just a side note-----Casey cries every time we go into the exam room--even if no one is touching her. Last year it took 4 adults to hold Shelby down for a flu shot. You can just guess how excited we all were with these doctor visits coming up. I even tried bribing the two bigger kids with $5 if they acted like big kids and not 2 year olds!!!

Now back to our story:

Steve had to got to an out of town meeting today so I figured that I was on my on for this trip. But God is so good to me because Steve finished up early and got back in just enough time to make the appointment. He quickly takes over with Landon and they call us back. Now we have been there so much that EVERYBODY already knows us and knows that Casey cries as soon as she realizes we're not just going to play in the waiting room.

They called the kids back and started to weigh and measure Drew and Shelby. They wanted to get a weight on Casey but she had other ideas. She was NOT going to stand on any scale no matter what. I REALLY did not want to get on that scale--I already know what I weigh and I figure that nobody else needs to know the actual numbers!!! Nurse Erin is such a sweetie. She picked up Casey and got on the scale. Then laughed and asked us what we like about the number 5! The kids weigh 75, 55 and 25 pounds. They are growing to fast for me!!!

Dr. S is so great. He spent probably an hour with us and not once did he make us feel rushed or like there were more people waiting. The best part is that we never have to wait for our turn. They are usually calling us back by the time I finish paying and the longest I've waited once in a room is about 5 minutes. Dr. S is also very funny and keeps the kids laughing--well not Casey but at least she sometimes stops crying for a minute. Things went along pretty well until Dr. S started to look at Casey's toe and ears. She'd been acting a little "strange" for a week or so and she has a toe nail that was ingrown. She let loose when we had to hold her down for them to look in her ears. She was telling him in NO uncertain terms to get away from her. Things just went down hill from there. When Shelby realized that we were almost done talking with the doctor, she got BETWEEN the wall and the chair that Steve was sitting in. Poor Erin came back in with the tray of "goodies" (3 shots for Drew, 2 for Shelby and 1 for Casey). We did Casey first since she was already bent out of shape. Next it was Drew's turn. I was totally unprepared for what happened next. I was standing next to Drew and holding his hands/arms because they were giving the shot in his upper leg (more fat). Now last year Drew was absolutely still while getting his shot but not so this year. He jerked away from me and grabbed Erin's hand just as she was getting ready to give him the first shot. This caused the needle to scrape his leg--which just made things worse. Steve had to give Landon to me so that he could hold Drew down. I was totally shocked!!! Erin was quick and got the shots done as soon as Steve got Drew under control. I know she felt bad about hurting him but she did the best she could. Well after all of this you can just guess how Shelby responded when we told her it was her turn. She was wearing jeans and was NOT going to pull them down and get on that table for anything. She was screaming and thrashing the entire time. She screamed at the top of her lungs. I'm surprised that the glass in the windows did not shatter!!!!

By the time we left I was wiped out. Steve had to go back to work and I had to run to Target and get Casey's meds for her ear. Poor Steve, Landon "marked" him while we were in the doctor's office so he got to go back to work and (in his words) "smell himself for the rest of the day"!! Welcome to my world.

So now I'm sure that when they see our names on the list at the doctor's office that there will be shudder. Maybe we will get everyone in the office some earplugs for Christmas!!!!

Home Sweet Home, I think.......

Well, we had a wonderful trip to Greenwood this week. It was great to see old friends--some that we have not seen in months and months!!!!

We spent the afternoon and evening at the Rooney house and had the most wonderful time. It is so great to have friends who are on the same page as we are in regards to raising children. At one point Jennifer mentioned having a child on the porch that was not hers (actually there were 2 out there that did not share the Rooney name--Shelby and one of their neighbors) and I said that there were 2 and she said that she considered Shelby to be one of hers!!! I just love that!! Wonder if they would like to foot the bill for college?!!

We also go to visit Grandma Margaret. Shelby said "yeah candy" when she found out who we were going to visit. You would think that she never gets candy!!! Margaret spoils her though by ALWAYS having a specific candy for her!!!! We also got to visit with Kevin, Margaret's son, who moved to Greenwood with his 2 children this summer. What a change for everyone involved!!! Please pray for every one's adjustment as you feel led. I know they could use it!!!

The bad part about the trip? It ended to quickly!!! (Okay, I know one of you is laughing hesterically at my saying a trip to Greenwood ended to quickly--and you know who you are!!) We had a long drive home last night. It actually started before we left. I had already thrown away some tights Casey was wearing when she had a diaper explosion earlier in the morning and then I had to give her a bath at Jennifer's because she had another one!!!

When we finally got home, I realized how sick Casey was--fever over 101 and then the vomiting started. I HATE chocolate milk now if anyone is curious!!!!!! She created an entire load of laundry--consisting of my clothes and her clothes!!! The sweet little thing got off her daddy's lap and came and got on my lap and then proceeded to start getting sick again and again!!!! The good part is that Steve was on the couch and I was sitting in the kitchen--on the phone with someone from church when she got in my lap!!!! The bad part--other than her being sick--is that she got in my lap!!!! I called the Dr. to see how long this was lasting since it's going around here and they said 7-10 DAYS!!!!!!! So who wants to come for a visit?!!!!!
I'm just hoping that the Rooney family will still be our friends. This is not a gift that you want to give!!!!

We were supposed to have our care group from church over tonight for dinner but we cancelled because we want them to like us!!!!!

Please pray that no one else gets this and if anyone else does get it that they don't give it to Landon!!! You may also want to buy Lysol stock!!!! I'm sure we will be using lots of it around here for the next few days!!!

We will try to have a better, happier, more entertaining blog later.

blogging mania

Well, I finally broke down and let Shelby have a blog. She has been so excited!!! I think she is trying to set the blog record for the day!!! Hey, Jen--she's got your 3 in one day beat!!!! I'm going to link to her on my side bar so check her out and don't forget to leave her a comment--she'll love it!!!

From the mountains to the land of no cell phone reception!!!

Thursday was an exciting day at our house. Steve had to work in Asheville on Thursday and was going on a golf retreat with the guys from church on Friday. It just so happens that the golf retreat is in the Asheville area!!! How lucky for us!!! Steve left VERY early on Thursday morning and the kids and I left later in the morning. We spent the day with our friends. Shelby was soooo happy!!! She has been missing her friends so much. I also enjoyed seeing everyone. We hadn't seen our friends in Asheville since June so it was definately time!!!! We spent the afternoon with the Andersons and then with the Waites and then we had dinner with the Franz family. It was a jam packed day but so much fun. Steve and I were really ready to get some sleep but the kids were so excited about being in the hotel that they were not ready to go to bed but Steve and I won out!!! Ahh, the perks of parenthood!!!

Friday was interesting. Steve got up and went into work for a couple of hours until the rest of the men got up there from Charlotte. I got the kids dressed and we headed down to breakfast. That was loads of fun!!! Then we headed back up to the room to get backed up. I grabbed a luggage cart before we went up to the room so that I could everybody and everything down to the car in one trip. When we got back up to the room, I realized that it was going to be difficult to get everyone and everything down in one trip but we did it. Here's what we did. I put Landon in his carseat and put him on the front end of the rolling luggage cart. Next I put Landon's rocking chair/bouncy seat on the back of the cart and put Casey in that. She thought that was pretty good. Then I packed stuff under Casey and I held onto the suit case while Shelby carried the diaper bag and Drew carried the portable bed that Landon had slept in. I'm sure we were a sight!!! Several people made comments about our crew. I did have the camrea but it was in the car, OF COURSE!! So you will just have to use your imagination on this one.

Now we are Mimi and KP's house for the weekend. The trip from Ahseville was quiet and things have gone pretty good since we got here. Casey is getting sick and so she is a little less than pleasant to be around. Right now she is crying "uh, bok-bok, gof cart" which is Casey for "I want to ride the golf cart to go see the chickens." So Mimi is taking her for a quick ride to see the chickens. Not sure what the rest of the day holds but we will head home tomorrow after lunch since the kids have choir practice tomorrow night and Shelby has her first art lesson on Monday morning. I'll post halloween pictures after I get home since along with no cell reception the internet is sort of slow here also.

Cats, flowers, pumpkins and ghost

Happy Late Halloween!!!

Halloween was different this year at the Bagwell house. First off, Drew didn't pick out a costume until the day before Halloween!! He choose a ghost. Okay not hard right? Well let me just tell you that Target does not sell single flat sheets. You have to buy a set--which we did not need for $25!!! Are you kidding? So on Halloween morning--yes on Halloween, we were heading to Walmart to get a flat sheet. All I have to say is "Thank you, Mimi" for asking if I had any white fabric. Well guess what!!! I had 3 yards--which was perfect. It still took all day to get the face cut out and the sides sewed up so that Drew could be a ghost. When I say it took all day--I mean that I was sewing at 4:45pm and we still needed to eat and be ready to leave by 6:15. Guess what--we were late!!!

Shelby choose to be a black cat, Casey was a cute flower and Landon was a pumpkin. Landon didn't really care and Casey practiced "drive by trick or treating." Steve pulled Casey in the wagon and she only got candy when the people were sitting outside where he could pull her to them. We tried getting her to get out but she said "no" and we tried getting her to let the bigger kids take her pumpkin to get her some candy but she said "no" to that also. She enjoyed looking at everyone. I was worried how she was going to do because while we were working on Drew's costume, she was having a fit. She sat there and watched Drew put on his costume and then when he turned around and said hi to her she almost had a stroke!!! She was screaming and frozen in fear!!! We finally cut the face out of Drew's costume so that he could see and so that he wouldn't scare Casey. I really was not sure how she would do with so many "things" out side. That may be why she didn't care to get out of her wagon.

Drew and Shelby had fun trick or treating with their friends, Macy and Tanner. It was nice for Steve and I also because we are in SS with their parents. However, Hal, Macy and Tanner's dad, power trick or treats. He just goes fast and hardly stops!!! We all got a good work out!!! The kids got WAY TO MUCH candy!!! Of course that's not how they feel about it.

We were all tired when we got home and it didn't take long to get everyone to sleep.
