Not without Him

I saw this today and thought I would share. Not sure of the original source but enjoy.

God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, "Lord, we don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did "in the beginning !!!"

"Oh, is that so? Tell me..." replies God.

"Well, " says the scientist, "we can take dirt and form it into the likeness of You and breathe life into it, thus creating man."

"Well, that's interesting. Show Me. "

So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil."Oh no, no, no..." interrupts GOD

"Get your own dirt."

Sunday Drive

Gee a Sunday drive: slow pace, relaxing, peaceful, sight seeing.....

Well not exactly. It was more like: heart racing, anxiety driven now that's more like it.
Landon just didn't have a good night last night. He just kept getting sicker and sounding worse, so this morning I decided to take him to urgent care while Steve and the kids were at church. No big deal or so I thought. I was thinking they would see him and say I was over reacting and that he didn't sound as bad as I thought he did. Well boy was I wrong. When I walked in to a TOTALLY full waiting room, my heart sunk. I asked them how long it would be until they could see him. They asked how old he was and when I said he wasn't quite 6 months they asked what was wrong. When I said he was having labored breathing and was wheezing some, they said that they didn't usually see kids under 6 months but they would ask the doctor. So I go and change his diaper. When I come out, the nurse is waiting on us!!! They took him to the triage room right away and did a breathing assessment on Landon. He was breathing 60 times a minute. That's HIGH--it's at the high end for a newborn and pretty high for a kid Landon's age. They also listened to his chest which was tight sounding. Then the nurse told me that he was going to have to go to the Children's ER and that she wanted the Dr. to look at Landon and decide if he was able to go straight there with me or if they were going to send him in an ambulance. Okay, let me say that I think I did pretty good staying calm but next time, they can call the ambulance. That was a nerve racking drive for me and it takes about 30 minutes. That drive was made even more fun by the fact that the 4 lane road was only 2 lanes because people use the outside lanes for church parking on Sunday morning. Oh yea!!! Fortunately, we didn't have to wait to long in the ER before they got us in a room. Landon's breathing had slowed down a bit but he was still tight sounding. We saw the physician's assistant (who I didn't really like--and he really needs to work on his bed side manner!!!) within about 15 minutes of being put in a room and he ordered a breathing treatment for Landon which was done with 5 minutes. They were really working pretty quickly today. We also saw the attending doctor who ordered a chest x ray. I liked the attending physician by the way. The x-ray was clean but no fun. If you've never seen how they do a chest x-ray on small babies, let me just say it looks like a torture device and I think Landon would agree. They gave him one more breathing treatment and said that we could come home on oral steroids for 4 days and breathing treatments every 4 hours today. They are not sure if he has pediatric asthma or if this is a viral issue. Only time will tell.
I though I was home free until tonight. He has fussed ALL evening and then Casey came home from church tonight and rocked my world yet again!!! Steve came in and set her down while he walked our neighbor home. Casey started screaming!!!! She was crying to go to bed. So I was hurrying to get her dressed when I realize how HOT she felt and that she has one tiny blister on her little bottom. I took her temp and yep she's burning up!!! So I go to give her some meds--in hopes of her sleeping tonight because from the sound of Landon, he's not going to do much sleeping. Steve came in and picked her up while I was getting her meds. I told him to look in her mouth and see if she had any blisters. He said no blisters but the top of her mouth looked like it had craters on it!!! GREAT!! But no wait within the next 30 seconds she starts trowing up!!! Yep, we're having a great night here!!! Wanna come over?!!!

School for fun

What do you do when you are really tired of the same old same old during school? You use candy for most of your lessons for a day!!!!
We had a "fun" school day yesterday--at least I think it was pretty good.
First we (meaning Drew and Shelby) did about 10 math problems that were written inside hearts. Next they each read about St. Valentine and had to answer some questions about him. They also had to write whether they thought he was a brave man and why or why not. Next they had to make a list of what the like about the other person and give it to him or her. After that they had to write a cinquain (a 5 line poem that doesn't rhyme). Shelby wrote about Sarah and Drew wrote about Steve. After all of this it was on to math--that was the fun part. We estimated how many candy hearts were in our box, how many it would take to make a foot, how many groups of 10 we could make. After we finished estimating, they opened up their boxes and found out the actual answers. Then we graphed our hearts by color and talked about other ways to sort them. We were going to graph by the saying on the hearts but Shelby had 30 heart candies with 24 different sayings and our graph could not accommodate that may variables. I never expected there to be so many different sayings. We also used our hearts in sentences. For science (which we actually did this morning) we put a candy heart in room temp, hot and cold water to see which would dissolve the candy faster. Hot was the winner at 44:01!!! I personally didn't think it would take that long. Then someone forgot and stopped the timer thus ending our experiment. Let's just say that they lost interest anyway and it was going to be a LONG time till the others dissolved. And no I was not the one that stopped the timer!!!! Okay I didn't come up with all of this on my own. Thank you Jennifer for a few of the ideas. The rest I found all or part of on line. Melinda, here's your lesson plan for next year.
Today is clean the house day--yea right! Then why am I here. Actually I am eating lunch so I can keep working. The house isn't really messy but...it needs to be de-cluttered. I feel like I just did that and now it needs it again. Oh but the good part is that Shelby has finally decided to get rid of a few things--admitting that she does not play with them!!! Baby steps, baby steps.
Steve and Drew are having a guys night tonight. They are heading into uptown to see the monster truck show. Can you say LOUD!!! I hope they enjoy themselves!!! Drew is pretty excited. Yes they have ear plugs!!!
Well off to work. Landon is not feeling all that good so I am trying to get as much as possible done while he is asleep.

Happy Valentine's Day

I just thought I would try and get this in early since all of our cards will be late!!!!!!! We had planned to mail them yesterday (after Drew and Shelby picked out which boxes they wanted) but then Drew didn't feel good so we didn't get to the post office for stamps. Then today was consumed with the grocery store and taking Casey to the doctor. Some days there just aren't enough hours. So all that to say............

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!!!!
We hope everyone has a great day. We are taking a break from our regular school to do some fun activities with candy hearts (who knew fractions and "writing" could be so fun and sweet)!!! Then I have to fix Georgia caviar and strawberry cake for a social that Steve and I will be attending tomorrow night. The kids will have a chance to go to church and play with their friends for a few hours while we spend time with other adults. I know everyone will have a great time!!!

A Record Day

Yep. It's been a great day!!!! Drew and Shelby did a great job with school today. They sat down and got right to work. They worked so hard and were done with school by 10:30!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes 2 days of school like this. I must say that I enjoy our day much more when they do their work like this!!! I almost don't want to post this because it seems when I do things go down hill the next day. But I'm sure this wont be the case this time!!!!!!!
Now they are getting ready to go play with some friends. I still need to go to the grocery store but some days, friends come first!!!

Bumbed Out!!!

Today was a different day. I couldn't believe it when I got a call from Alicia Curry. She my maid of honor when Steve and I got married. I was so surprised!!! Her youngest daughter, Ali, had a gymnastics meet near us in Concord and they stopped by on the way home. The last time we had seen each other was in January of '06 right after Casey was born.
We had a nice afternoon of just trying to catch up. I used to keep her little boys, Josh and Jeremy. It's hard to believe that Josh is 25 and the manager of Outback in Augusta and Jeremy is 19!!!!!!! Where did the time go exactly?
I mentioned at one point that I need to get a picture of us together but then we got side tracked and it just didn't happen. So that's why I'm bumbed out!! I did get one of Ali holding Landon. I think Ali had fun and Shelby said that she hopes they can come back soon!!!!!! Me, too!!
On a side note:
Casey spent many long weeks crying about having to go to church. It was so bad that they kept having to come and get Steve or I because she was just so upset. Well, my how the tides have turned!!! Tonight she was crying because we made her come home!!! Steve and I were laughing at that one!! She kept crying that she wanted to "pay" (aka play)--you know since she doesn't have any toys at home!!!!!!

Well, it's been a strange few days here. Landon went home with Mimi on Saturday. It's very strange not having him here. The upside is two fold. First is that we are working on getting Casey back to sleeping through the night. Having her ears infected for so long changed her sleep pattern--and our also!!! Now we are trying to reteach her to put her self back to sleep!! It is actually going pretty well--better than I expected. The other positive is that I can take a nap when Casey does right now. I better not get to used to that little plus!!! I was glad that Landon went with Mimi because on Sunday I woke up feeling pretty bad. I thought I was doing better today but by 5:30 I felt probably the worst I have so far. I told Steve that felt like dirt and that smarty pants wanted to know which kind--beach sand, red clay, top soil. I thought for a minute and decided it was the well fertilized type!!! He caught on. The down side of Landon being at Mimi's (besides how much we miss him) is that my mom has the same stuff I do--or something close.

Other than teaching Casey to sleep all night and teaching Drew the of long division (UGH!!!!!!!!!!) not much is going on at our house.

Shelby is counting the hours until Friday when I am taking her and Macy to see the 3D Hannah Montana movie/concert. She is pretty excited and so is Macy. I hope they really enjoy it. Drew and Steve have a guys trip planned for next Friday.
OH! One last thing. Casey got her last set of ear drops tonight. I'm not sure who is happier us or her!!! She is such a trooper. She starts crying when she sees the bottle or hears us say something about her ears she starts crying but tonight I didn't even have to really hold her down. That's a big deal because the I almost had to sit on top of her the 2nd time we put them in her ears.
